Carl Junction is about six miles north of Joplin, a little to the west. Charles L. Skinner platted it in April 1877 where two rail lines were set to cross, and he named it Carl after his own German first name. The first train came through on July 20, 1879. In 1892, miners found the fossil bones of four elephants in a mine on the south end of town, and they went on show at the Chicago World's Fair the next year.
Most of the houses are far younger than the town. Census Bureau figures for 2020 to 2024 put Carl Junction's median home at 1997, and 43 percent were built in 2000 or later. Only about 7 percent date to before 1960. Nearly nine in ten homes are single-family houses, and more than three in four occupied homes are lived in by their owners. On a house with several gables facing the street, each peak is its own run of bulbs. We space them so the lines match from one peak to the next.
The city sorts its fall leaf pickup by neighborhood. The 2026 schedule starts North of Center Creek on November 23, moves to Briarbrook on November 30, then Country Club Estates on December 7 and Oscie Ora Acres on December 14. Those are the same weeks lights go up around town. If your pickup week and your install land together, tell us, and we will set the ladder clear of the leaf rows at the curb.
Main Street is where the season shows. KOAM reported that the CJ Christmas Parade, presented by the Carl Junction Lions Club, rolled on a cloudy, windy, cold Sunday, December 7, 2025. In 2022, KSNF counted more than 30 floats heading down Main Street to the Community Center. Back in 2018, the Chamber wrote that the Lions Club decorates a community Christmas tree in front of Fire Station 1 on Pennell Street, while Public Works hangs lighted decorations on the Main Street poles.

Yes. Outlining peaks and gables is part of what we do, and we handle all of the ladder work to reach them. Each peak gets its own run of bulbs, lined up with the roof edge below it.
The CJ Christmas Parade has fallen on a Sunday in early December, most recently December 7, 2025. Booking in early November gives us the most room on the schedule before then.
No. After the holidays we take them down and store them for you until next year, so your garage shelves stay clear.
