Christmas Light Installation

Straight lines on every edge, and no one in your house on a ladder.

A house looks lit from the street when the lines are straight. That means bulbs spaced evenly along each gutter, up both sides of every peak, and around the second story if there is one. We walk the house first and plan where each run starts and stops, so the corners meet and the spacing holds from the porch gable to the top of the roof. Then every bulb gets clipped in place. The photos on this page show how they sit: in a row along the gutter and the edge of the shingles. NFPA's holiday tip sheet says to hang lights with clips, not nails, so the cords do not get damaged.

The ladder is the part most people would rather skip, and for good reason. CPSC says about 14,900 people went to the emergency room for holiday decorating injuries in its 2023 holiday season, counted from November 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023, and nearly half of those injuries involved falls. OSHA's ladder card says an extension ladder must reach at least 3 feet above the edge it leans on, its base should sit one foot out for every four feet of height, and the climber keeps three points of contact. ESFI adds one more for decorating: stay at least 10 feet from power lines. All of that is the work we take off your hands.

Joplin weather makes the roof harder still. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Joplin Regional Airport put the average December low at 28.5 degrees, with about 21 nights in the month at or below freezing. In December 2007, an ice storm left half an inch to an inch of ice over the city of Joplin, per NOAA's storm records, with major tree and power line damage north of town. A frosty or iced roof is no place to stand, so if the weather turns, your install moves to the next clear day.

Lights do their job after dark, and in December dark comes early. Timeanddate lists the earliest Joplin sunset of 2026 on December 6, at 5:00 pm, and sunset on Christmas Day at 5:06 pm. Book in November and your house is lit for all of those early evenings.

06 / FAQ

Christmas Light Installation questions, answered.

No. We do all of the ladder and roof work, start to finish. You tell us what you want lit, and we handle every edge, peak and corner from up top.

With clips. You can see them in our photos, lined up along the gutter and the edge of the shingles. NFPA's holiday safety tip sheet says to hang lights with clips, not nails, so the cords do not get damaged.

As early in November as you can. The sun sets around 5:00 pm in Joplin through most of early December, so lights that are up by the first week of the month get used every evening. Early calls get the first open dates.

Then we wait for a clear day. An iced roof is not safe to stand on, and ice is part of winter here: NOAA's storm records show half an inch to an inch of ice over Joplin in the December 2007 storm. We set a new date with you as soon as the roof is dry.

Yes. After the holidays we take everything down carefully, and we store your lights for you so they're ready to go next year.
